UNIVERSWATER Cited as Key Solution in Water Europe’s Strategic Position Paper on Digitalisation

The UNIVERSWATER project is proud to announce its inclusion as a benchmark solution in Water Europe’s newly released position paper: “The Digitalisation Action Plan (DAP) for Water.”
The paper, which serves as a call to action for EU institutions and Member States, identifies the Digitalisation Action Plan as a cornerstone for achieving a Water-Smart Society. It positions digitalization as a “game-changer” necessary to secure water for all uses and users amidst growing systemic risks to Europe’s economy and security.
Proving that Digital Solutions Work
While Europe currently holds 40% of global water-related patents, the Water Europe position paper highlights a critical gap: the failure to deploy these solutions at scale. This leads to fragmented monitoring and missed opportunities to optimize resource management.
UNIVERSWATER is specifically cited as one of the EU-funded projects currently bridging this gap. The project is recognized for demonstrating that digital solutions are not just theoretical—they are already working on the ground to improve monitoring, reduce environmental risks, and enable proactive water governance.
Aligning with the Digitalisation Action Plan (DAP)
The position paper outlines a strategic framework for a secure, interoperable, and investment-ready digital transformation. UNIVERSWATER’s core objectives align directly with the key pillars of this plan, including:
-
Interoperability and Data Governance: Creating a “single source of truth” that allows data to flow across transboundary river basins.
-
Advanced Monitoring: Moving beyond simple smart metering to provide deep, real-time insights into water quality and availability.
-
Risk Mitigation: Leveraging data to anticipate water-related risks before they impact industry, agriculture, or citizens.
By being featured in this high-level policy document, UNIVERSWATER reaffirms its role as a leader in Europe’s digital water transition. The project continues to work alongside partners like WATERVERSE and IDEATION to provide the technical evidence needed to scale these innovations across the continent.
