UNIVERSWATER Partners Gather in Terrassa to Advance Water Innovation and Resilience

The UNIVERSWATER consortium came together on 21–22 October 2025 in Terrassa, Spain, for its project meeting, hosted by the LEITAT Technological Center. The two-day event brought partners from across Europe to exchange on progress, share insights, and plan the next steps toward achieving the project’s goals of safeguarding water and soil resources from agricultural pressures.
The meeting opened with a warm welcome from LEITAT, followed by updates from all work packages. Partners reviewed progress across key areas including digital tools, sensing technologies, and remediation strategies, as well as discussed new opportunities for collaboration under upcoming EU initiatives.
The sessions provided an opportunity to reflect on recent achievements, align on project priorities, and strengthen the shared commitment to developing a “system of systems” approach to water management — integrating advanced monitoring, data sharing, and nature-based solutions to protect water quality and quantity.
On the second day, participants visited LEITAT’s facilities and headquarters to explore the centre’s innovative research environment and see in practice how previous Nature-Based Solutions (NbS) pilots have contributed to sustainable water management.
Among the highlights was a visit to the pilot plants developed within the UNIVERSWATER project, showcasing concrete progress in the deployment of technologies aimed at reducing pollution, restoring ecosystems, and improving water resilience in agricultural landscapes.
These visits offered valuable insight into how the project’s scientific and technical work translates into real-world impact — bridging research, innovation, and implementation.
As UNIVERSWATER moves forward, the consortium continues to build on its collaborative momentum to deliver practical, scalable solutions that contribute to the EU’s water resilience and climate adaptation goals.
